Jeff’s Story

Active and Alive

How massage therapy brought me from trauma to peak recovery.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIn 2007, while painting a building in downtown Bellingham, I was struck with 7,200 volts of electricity. The trauma resulted in my entering the hospital in a coma. The months following the accident were some of the most difficult in my life. Nerve pain, depression, confusion, short-term memory loss and limited range of motion hampered my quality of life.

Fortunately, my physician suggested massage therapy to strengthen my body, improve my mental clarity and increase my range of motion. Without the bodywork I received through an intuitive, compassionate and skilled massage therapist, I would not have fully recovered.

My nervous system was healed to the point where I gained sensation in areas I was told I would never feel again. Within six months, I was at peak recovery—hiking in the woods, training for ski season and back at work as a painter.

During my healing journey, I was awakened to the struggles others face when recovering from debilitating physical, psychological and emotional conditions. My desire to help led me to become a massage practitioner and eventually open my own practice, ActiveLife Massage Therapy.

Looking back on this experience, I am in awe of where I am today—active and alive!
